What originally motivated you to try Pilates?
Years of back pain from trauma. I was seeing a chiropractor and was not getting results. He suggested I try Pilates. I was hooked after the first class.

The last thing you bought and loved?
I love my foam roller and use it every day!

In one word, describe your first Pilates experience?
Life-changing. I know that’s not exactly one word, but definitely most accurate.

Your favorite Pilates exercise?
Shortspine on the Reformer.

Your favorite website (other than Pilates Anytime)?
The World’s Healthiest Foods. Besides Pilates Anytime, of course. They have wonderful information on nutrition and great recipe ideas.

Your favorite workout clothes?
Lululemon and Balance Collection.

How did you hear about Pilates Anytime?
My coworker suggested I check it out for inspiring ideas … she was SO right!

The last song you downloaded?
Sail, by Awolnation.

Do you practice a particular style of Pilates?
My original mat training was through Power Pilates (classical), but then I completed my training through STOTT Pilates. So I would say I practice a combination of classical and STOTT.

How do you use Pilates Anytime?
I use Pilates Anytime to get new and fresh ideas for group classes and private clients; they always know when I’ve spent time learning on the Pilates Anytime website. I find that my coworker and I come into the studio saying, “I watched a video on Pilates Anytime and I learned _____.” We then hop on the mat or piece of equipment to share what we learned.

Do you have a motto?
I have a motto I use when teaching: “If it doesn’t feel good, don’t do it.” I tell this to my new clients all the time. However, I qualify it by saying there is a distinct difference between a hard exercise and one that your mind/body tells you just doesn’t feel right. If this occurs, I urge them to stop and take a little break and that I am glad to review modifications with them if necessary.

The living person you most admire?
My husband. His never ending encouragement, patients and kindness have allowed me to be where I am today!

What do you appreciate most about your body?
I appreciate living pain free and feeling strong and energetic.

An indulgence you would never forgo?
Dark chocolate and red wine . . . mmmmmmmm.

The book on your bedside table?
Turning Your Mind into an Ally, by Sakyong Mipham. I highly recommend this book to everyone!

What was your most memorable journey?
Leaving my 13 year corporate career when I realized that it was killing my soul and I needed to find something that gave me joy and fulfillment. And, of course, that is when I started my journey to become a Pilates instructor. Although it has been a challenging journey, it has been worth every bead of sweat!
