A Message from Leah Stewart

"Hello my fellow Pilates Anytime Members and lovers of Pilates! Some of you may know my pre- and post-natal Pilates classes here on PA. Well, I would love to hear about your experiences with post-natal Pilates.

I have a growing blog on my website and have begun a series where guest bloggers discuss their thoughts and post-natal Pilates stories. I would love some more mothers or Pilates instructors working with new mothers to share their stories on my blog as featured guest bloggers.

If you are interested, please check out my blog for more information or contact me with your stories here.

I look forward to hearing about your experiences!"

Leah, This is not a story about teaching pilates to Pre/post natal clients but it is an inquiry from me, a teacher in the past for aquatic and land exercise instruction for pre/post natal. Now this has been several years ago when my children were born. I taught for the thru the YMCA 's program at the time. I teach special populations now in pilates and would love to include this group into my schedule. Where do you sggest I train specifically for pilates and yoga for pre/post natal? Thx for what you do for these woman!

Hi Linda,

Thank you so much for your inquiry! Yes, pre- and post-natal women is a very special population and one that is an absolute joy to work with.

There are many pre- and post-natal Pilates teacher trainings out there. I have created and teach the BASI Pilates Pre- and Post-Natal Pilates Specialization Course. I will be teaching the course in Costa Mesa, CA this month, Denver, CO in October and Las Vegas, NV in November (the weekend before the PMA).

It is a fantastic, well-rounded course in which you will acquire all of the essential information about pregnancy and the post partum period along with a ton of fantastic repertoire for the whole body that prepares women for labor and helps women properly heal from labor and pregnancy.

Visit BASI's website to learn more about the course

Thank you again for getting in touch!

Summer,

Glad to hear that you enjoyed Pilates so much through your pregnancy and postpartum period.

The Center of Women's Fitness is another great program. There are many wonderful resources out there for everybody to enjoy. I enjoyed studying with Carolyne years ago, I learned a lot from her.

Take care,

Leah

Hi Leah,
My name is Sarah a Pilates, Dance and Zumba instructor from Australia. I am an avid believer in the amazing benefits of Pilates throughout pregnancy and I attribute Pilates to my fantastic pregnancies, births and recoveries. Both pregnancies were completely comfortable (except for a silly decision to ride a push bike 10 kilometres at 9.5 months with my 3 year old on the back causing a pubic symphysis disorder which diappeared after my next Pilates session). My births were both within 3 hours and recoveries amazing! I was back teaching Zumba 3 days after my second baby due to necessity and it was like I'd never given birth.
It is so rewarding sharing the benefits of Pilates with pregnant women and hearing their same positive birthing experience and recovery thanks to Pilates.

Funny thing actually happened recently! A pregnant Pilates client was suffering severe morning sickness and was on medication to deal with it! She hadn't made her Pilates sessions due to the sickness and then finally came saying she'd give it a go! When she entered she looked so bad I really didn't think she'd make it and actually placed a bucket beside her just in case. Well she made it through and was blown away! She hadn't felt so good in weeks and was amazed!! She had the colour back in her cheeks, her eyes were no longer glassy and she literally skipped out of the studio due to Joy and Relief!!!
I have also developed a music, movement and Pilates program named MAYHEM for Mums and bubs 0-4 years which is a hit with all who attend!
Oh, I could go on for days but must go as my babies need me!! x x x
Kind Regards,
Sarah :)
