Mat, Pilates Pole
Today's class focuses on standing balance, building strength in quadriceps, hip extensors and back extensors. Standing squat-like positions are repeated with emphasis on hip/knee alignment and posture through the entire spine. Think about the Matwork and it's application into more functional movements like standing and squatting and use all the fundamentals from the floor....into gravity. This class is great for anyone needing more bone on bone/weight bearing exercise and can be exceptional for a fit 50 & 60 yr old with Osteopenea or Osteoporosis. Because of the repetition of standing squat like positions, be mindful of your knees and modify if needed by not bending too deeply during the class. Amy uses a stick, but a broom handle can do just the same.
