Pilates Anytime is closing the studio, packing up the vans, and heading to Las Vegas to be a part of the 18th Annual Pilates Method Alliance Conference (October 24-27) and to express ourselves radically! “Vegas baby!“
On October 26 (yes, Halloween weekend), we're hosting "The Annual Pilates Anytime Party" at the M Hotel in Las Vegas, and you’re all invited! For this year's costume party we’re expecting to see radical self-expression!
I have to admit, I’m no authority on being radical anything, but I can pretty easily find a connection to self-expression and Pilates, and I’m looking forward to getting outside my perfectly contained self (ha!).
All too often in Pilates, we confine ourselves to rules, order, breath patterns, and the like. It's Contrology after all. Wouldn't you like to forget about the “box” altogether and play just for a moment? We wanted to know: if you knew you were safe and that everyone would respect your version of radical expression, what might you do? Even if you can’t attend the PMA, it’s fun to think about isn’t it?To help inspire your thinking, we looked to an art form that is rooted in self-expression and is having a new moment in the cultural spotlight: Voguing. Voguing is a pathway to self-expression and is all about originality. We asked Ballroom Queen, Isla Cheadle, to share her thoughts on Ballroom Culture and Voguing. You can read her interview here. You also can see Isla perform in our Mini Ball Thursday night in the Revello Lounge, and you can participate in your own Mini Ball experience!
Every day we practice or teach Pilates, we see how our bodies and our beings have been shaped by the strongly held notions we carry, including our past injuries, fears, achievements, failures, joys, and more.
This year's PMA Pre-con is on the topic of "Overcoming Pain." When someone is in pain, no matter how minor or severe, they can be limited in how they express themselves, emotionally or physically. In our expert Q&A series we explore how Pilates can facilitate positive movement experiences, create joy and ease and, ultimately, hope. What could be more radical?
This year, we’ll also explore the radical power of touch and how we express ourselves - with our very own Hug Deli. The counter will be open for business at the party. Come feel for yourself!
If you plan to attend and have more questions about what to wear or do, well, we won’t give you the answer, but we do have more suggestions here.
Will you be there? Let us and your Pilates peers know in the comments below!
