quadriceps pain in 1/2 roll back

I have a student who experiences pain along the front sides of her thighs when performing a 1/2 roll back & basically when sitting on the floor even when sitz bones elevated. She also has trouble keeping her big toes on the floor in 1/2 roll back& can/will not squat on balls of feet. Ive tried ball between flexed knees in 1/2 roll back & encourage her to only go as far as she can control the movement. Can anyone give suggestions that may help please?

I have the same issues with a few of my mat students. I put a ball behind their sacrum or low back and have them roll back into the ball and draw their abs in and up to lift up. It is quite a different exercise but it keeps them out of their quads. Hope this helps.
thanks Jill.
