Question and please share your thoughts.

A client has come to with pain in the front of left inner thigh, left side of hip and left side of lower back she says just above the butt. She said she walked 2 miles back in October and it was after that she had pain. She said sometimes too painful to stand. I advised her to go to a doctor. She went but the doc said it was bursitis. She is in still pain and will be getting a second opinion. Could it be SI joint issue or psoas? Thoughts?
Hi Jodie,
I am not a doc or PT, but I have seen this symptoms with bursitis and/or arthritis. Perhaps her long walk inflamed the bursa? I have also seen that pattern from a torn labrum.
Chances are, there will be some disorganized movement in the hips and pelvis (SI/ Psoas, etc) either from before the injury or in the subsequent months of compensated movement.
Jodie,

I had identical symptoms a while back..It was very painful and was exacerbated with long walks. It turned out to be a very tight psoas. A bit of rehab( they actually massage the psoas manually ) and stretches eased the pain. As always an injury turned out to blessing in disguise as it forced me to slow down and rethink my daily movement patterns ..It also made me a better pilates instructor( I think ! )

Good luck :)

Hi Jodie
I have a client with diagnosed hip bursitis on both hips left and right. This is my first time working with this condition. What would you suggest as a range of exercises on either the reformer or cadillac
My two cents, keeping in mind I'm not a doc, is that it could very well be bursitis. I've worked with clients suffering from hip bursitis who report similar symptoms. Simple hip-hike exercises off a step or low platform might help before getting on reformer or cadillac. Ask your client questions constantly (how does that feel? does that hurt?) so you can gather as much information on ROM and pain quality as possible.

Hi Pilates ladies& gents! Please could someone help me with a puzzling question I have. I am currently studying for my Pilates mat certification. Is it normal to experience a lot of joint cracking and creaking sounds while practising Pilates. Is this because I am doing a lot more pilates or is it something I need to be worried about? Thanks and regards michelle x
Hi wild desert dog l also noticed lots of crackles and pops. I was advised by my tescher that l was not in neutral pelvis and spine when dojng my movements. Also stiffness until l became stronger and learnt to move deeper and fire from the correct muscle groups. If your worried or its excessive perhaps seek medicsl advice. I went to Chiropractor for a few adjustments as one of my legs was longer than the other. Also some myofacial releasing classes and yoga helped for stretching.

Thanks Loretta. I will think about what you have said, although deepening the c-curve and working in occassional neutral pelvis/ spine is what I am concentrating on. I think!I unfortunately don't have anyone to guide me as I live in the middle east. Thank you for you response.
can your mentrusl cycle affect bursitis? ive been training a client with past issues with hip bursitis and we have had a LOT of success.. then she took a couple weeks off and then . that time of month.. and relapse.. ive referred her to a osteopath too out of curiosity who also mentioned misaligned pelvis and compression into her sacrum, and tight gluts

her osteo said not to do more side laying positions as it may inflame it. not sure i agree completely.. as its not always inflamed.. her osteo also mentioned her weight loss leaves less padding on her hips.. (i think that is reaching a bit
??) :)
