I have a client who has been diagnosed with cervical stenosis. She has pain in her neck, left trap and scapula. I have been unable to find specific exercises to help her. We are working on shoulder girdle stabilization. Any other suggestions?
Hi Joan! I have a client with a fused C2/C3, underwent laminoplasty for C6/C7, and has pain down his right arm. I put a deflated stability ball and place it under the the clients OA joint. We do "yes," "no" and small circles to release the neck. We also practice cervical nods to thoracic flexion. In addition to shoulder girdle stability with shoulder joint mobility (different versions of ribcage arms and arm springs on the trap table + ped-o-poll).
But at the end of the day I'm looking to decompress the spine and treat the whole body. I address his cervical issues but I don't make it my focus. I simply cue alignment; use imagery to elongate the spine; and do my best to return his body to health.
It was helpful for me to review spinal column anatomy. I used the Anatomy Coloring Book, and it was great to understand spinal stenosis.
