Foot injuries from reformer footwork

I am a runner @20-35 miles/week. I have been doing reformer workouts for @ 5 weeks 3xweek. I noticed sore toes after switching to single leg footwork on the footbar, but I had no pain or trouble while doing the footwork. On my last run I snapped the flexor ligament to my big toe. Known as turf toe injury. I am now scared to do footwork. Any suggestions for my future footwork after I heal. Or should I avoid footwork?
