Looking for tips on Rolling Like a Ball transition to Standing

Elaine S.
I've been looking everywhere (on the web) for some tips on how to help students go from rolling like a ball to standing, or from a cross-legged position to standing, and I can't find anything. Any suggestions? I'm a new Pilates instructor, and I myself am not very skilled at this, so I'd welcome recommendations on cueing/muscle activation.

Hi Elaine, as a teacher who loves to do this transition, I will give you a few of my suggestions.....practice---it can take awhile! How are your knees? This may be a consideration too...if not so healthy, maybe not a good choice to have people try. Ankle flexibility helps also so perhaps working on that prior to trying this. In the moment of coming from the roll to the stand up part (or eventually a jump!), I cue for people to get their chests/upper body over the legs pretty quickly so that they're not leaving their weight behind. It's ok to use the hands to get up and even use them to push off the floor a bit. It's ok to open the knees a little, but parallel may be more ideal, but everyone is different. Muscles.....legs, gluts as they are primary 'push' muscles and will assist in getting from low level to higher level. Lower body strength will help. Hope these are some useful suggestions for you, let me know how it goes!

have you watched Phillip Beach's recent fundamental movement sequences class? I believe his approach could be helpful with this.
Great thinking Maggie! Absolutely...there are several factors that can make this transition easy or difficult for a person. Ankle mobility/flexibility, knees, hips etc...all take into account. :)

I'm a new certified instructor-in Peak we were told to cross our arms (bracelet). I can't do it. I know it is an option. How do most instructors do it?
