The four participants are too young to know that the "neutral wars" of the 90s were fought because the excessive resistance of Gratz forced the posterior pelvic tilt position. Now fast forward to today when 60% of the population is very large and none of them fit on this Gratz reformer.
great topic. Would like more on this if possible

Another important difference is the level at which the straps/ropes come through the pulleys. Gratz has no risers, whereas Balanced Body typically has risers. Even at the bottom of the risers, BB pulleys are higher than Gratz. Recently, I've noticed that many trainers now set the ropes 1/2 way up or at the top of the risers for the entire class or session. I hope you can have several instructors comment on this difference.
Yes, please comment on the height of the risers. Thanks!
Regarding the risers: the angle that the straps pull from at the back of the reformer completely changes the support that is given to the legs. The lower the straps are (at the bottom of the risers for BB or at the normal level on Gratz), the less support the legs receive from the straps. This affects how low the legs can go without pressure being felt in the back, among other things. I suggest getting on the apparatus and doing exercises that you know with the straps at different heights to feel the difference. This will inform your teaching.
yes, on the risers.. they also influence the arm work as well as legs. great suggestion Carrie to getting on board and playing w/ same exercises but w/ different settings both w/ spring and lengthening shortening equip., we were taught to even change the orientation of the rerformer to the room to change it up!
Carrie Carrie Macy Hello Quick Question. First of all great segment. One of my clients just got a 89" Gratz reformer. Myself, my client, and her husband our still on an emotional high. I used to find doing "Hamstring Curls" very difficult on a Gratz during the eccentric phase of the hamstring curl because the resistance didn't feel the same same as it did on a Balanced Body. The carriage is kinda of slow to come back in. This is the case with Long Box Series (Pulling Straps and "T" Pull) taught on 1 spring. During the concentric phase of theses 2 exercises it feels great but during the eccentric phase the carriage takes forever to come in. I miss being in the same studio as you .
