Fantastic discussion! I'm that "no pain no gain" guy that you described at the beginning, and had the exact issue with overstretching the hamstrings and other muscle groups at the expense of others.  Very interesting!

If a person has a regular regime of pilates and yoga workouts, combined with foam roller, restorative movements, etc., do you feel they would still benefit from mayo fascial massage/regular massage?  I heard an interesting comment that only we know our own bodies and by having another person manipulate our tissues and musculature we are allowing them to "fix" us according to where they think we should be, and they could potentially be causing more harm than good.  Interested in your opinions on this Amy and Ann?

Hi Shannon
I apologize for the delay in answering you. That is a really great question. I can only speak to my own technique of Fascial Stretch Therapy that is based on the Practitioner truly listening to their clients body and tissues. We allow their body "talk" to us as we move it thru space. There is never an agenda to  "fix it" because only the client is capable for healing themselves. We are simply the facilitators.  It is a synergistic relationship based on trust and never causing pain. I hope that helps!  Sincerely, Ann
