Wonderful series:) Wondering when your new book is coming out with co-author Elizabeth Larkham and if these assessments are a part of the material presented in the book?
Hi Amy, thank you. These assessments and movements are part of Madeline Black Method and will be in my 2nd Edition of "Centered" to be released in January. Handspring publishing is taking pre-orders now for 10% discount. You can go to their website to order. The Pilates Health Conditions book that Elizabeth and I are editing includes some of these gait focused assessments. It is not taught what they are, the case report authors used these assessments. If you wish to learn details on these assessments, that would be in 2e "Centered".
Do you feel that teaching these exercises in a class setting would be beneficial to most bodies? I'm thinking that these would be great to help my clients find some "thing" (awareness, mobility, etc.) about their bodies without getting too detailed about it. Thanks in advance for your advice!
Yes Laurel, you can cue people in small group setting to try the assessment movements, and ask them to notice what they feel about how their body prefers to move. After the class, repeat them so they can feel who they changed!
Thanks. So much to learn. It was very clear how small the movements in the ribs are but they are there. Will need to watch video a few times and then see /feel if I am getting something like that. Wish you could do an assessment on an older person. Another profound lesson.
