Awesome education, Karen!! Question: where do you introduce this in a class? I sometimes open with a bird dog series (roll down to birddog), especially when my "peak" exercise is long stretch series. Is this correct or poor thinking?
Thank you for your always incredible, thoughtful contributions!!
Thank you Karen! It’s always so good to get these little tutorials. You think you know it all and then………I’ve been teaching for many years but I definitely picked up on a bit more knowledge from you! One never stops learning
I agree absolutely with you when you speak about "the set up is key" and in my experience seldom understood properly in Pilates exercises. This is good Stuff.
Incidentally, have you a Totorial dealing specifically with trying to rehabilitate the hip joints severely affected with Osteoarthritis and avoid surgery?
Mat Rehabilitation is a big subject. The best things for hips, in my opinion, is to educate the movement within a painfree range of motion. This Range of Motion can be discovered in both weight bearing and non-weight bearing, keeping in mind that weight bearing is where we spend a lot of our time in daily activities. When I work with people, I don't often think "avoid" surgery, or "pro" surgery, I think the following:
Provide space for the hip joints, pelvic joints and spinal joints.
