Pilates for blind people

For some time now I have been thinking about Pilates for blind people and now there is a chance that I could teach a blind person. I believe Pilates would be a great workout as it is not necessary to watch any demonstration, the instructions for each exercise would be processed in the brain and transmitted to the body (mind body connection), tactile cueing should be a great aide and I believe trust will be an important component. Has anyone taught a blind person? Mat, apparatus? what to do, what to avoid? Any thoughts or suggestions will be much appreciated.
Hi Lali
I am curious as to whether you ended up teaching a blind student. If so any help you might offer me as I start my first lesson with a blind current would be appreciated.

Hi I've just been asked to give privates Pilates sessions to a man that has been blind since birth. He has sciatica and has put on a lot of weight due to not be able to walk so much. I would welcome any advice from those of you that have experience of working with the blind. Many thanks Jo
Hi Jo
I did end up teaching several lessons to a blind client. I found that physical cues were very helpful for her but I needed to let her know where and when I was going to touch her. Probably the most difficult part was learning how to navigate the studio together. Assisting her with switching places to different equipment, I found that leading her with her hand on my shoulder and telling her where we were going and what obstacles were in the way worked best. She enjoyed the lessons and had she remained in the area I think she would have continued to take lessons. Her proprioception was quite good and she was very quick to pick up on cues for stability and mobility.

Many thanks Amy. I appreciate that. Yes I believe that blind people have very good balance and proprioception. Was thinking I might record some exercises so client has audio cues to work on at home.
Sounds like an excellent idea. It would be great if you could share your experience later.
Hi! I have taught a blind student... she was a great sport and caught on quickly- even began to change her own springs!
