Hi, I just purchased a Gratz reformer for my home studio. My friends/clients love it--more work than my allegro--but we find it creaks and groans a lot. We all like quiet! I know when we work too hard with our legs and not with the core it tends to be louder but even when we emphasize core it still seems unusually noisy. Just curious if anyone experienced this with Gratz and had solutions. Thank you!
I believe almost all new Reformers make groans or settling noises. Its usually coming from the springs. They do settle down once the springs have been in use for awhile. At least that is the experience I have had on mine..I have BB but have been on other types that do the same thing. Its kind of freaky sounding at the beginning but I have been told its common. Give it some time. I just wouldnt add any type of oil or such to a new machine at the beginning. If you think its more than the natural sounds the new springs do make then contact your Gratz manufacturer.
Check the wheels! the black wheels must be clean and the rail where they slide must be even cleaner! no dust. usually a new Gratz ref does only a soft sound when the carriage moves, no other sounds! so maybe check with them now!
The wheels on a Gratz need to be maintained every month or so, specifically with a bit of white lithium grease, not oil. I have a brand new gratz that started out quiet and then become noisy after a few weeks of using it. I checked the wheels and one of them needed to be greased. Now my reformer rides quiet again. Apply only white lithium grease from the tube. And apply sparingly.
Thank you all so much for your excellent responses. Very helpful and my Gratz is much quieter now--love it and love Pilates Anytime. Thanks again! Tiffany
