side plank - discovery

I took Class 828: Tracey Mallett twice last week and was having problems with stability in the side plank series. It seemed like my wrist wasn't strong enough or something. This morning after our run, I was trying to show my friend, and I was totally able to do it! We started breaking it down and she was talking about not being able to get her feet right and I had the "aha" discovery -- I was wearing my running shoes and it was way easier! I had been barefoot trying it in the class when I wasn't really able to hold it.

How much is it cheating to wear shoes for side plank? Can it help me learn the side plank move or does it just build a bad habit?
