I am a physical therapist and am considering taking a Comprehensive Instructor Training Course, and I am finding that there are so many different types of Instructor Trainings / philosophies. Could someone give me advise on choosing one? Polestar Pilates is offering the series close to my home, would this be the best route for a physical therapist that would like to incorporate pilates into rehab of injured patients as well as post rehab? Thanks for your advice! Also, what is your feeling about being PMA certified?
Gosh you are lucky if you are close to Polestar!! The absolute best in my humble opinion.! We need more PT's turning their hearts and minds toward Pilates.Such a perfect fit. Good luck!
Alice...thank you for your post. First in regard to selecting a Comprehensive Instructor Training Course....I support your thinking about PoleStar Pilates. For someone with your backgroud, I think you'd find this program more than rewarding and very much in line with your goals of integrating Pilates into rehab, and/or post rehab. I think it would support your stance and you'd merge into the Pilates aspect of movement education easily.
In regard to the PMA certification...yes, I think that's a good idea. If you decide to go through PoleStar, you will be more than prepared to sit for the PMA exam. I believe all Pilates teachers should be certified by the PMA, no matter their background. It is one way we can 'stick together' and support one another in this industry and does put us in somewhat of a neutral zone.
Hope that helps a bit....oh, and this is Amy, one of the regular teachers here on PA!
Thank you Amy and Kristi for you input, I really appreciate it! and I am thrilled to have found this site! What a wonderful resource for the public and aspiring students/ teachers of Pilates! I love the passion of the instructors on this site, it's contagious! :)
I am finishing a Polestar comprehensive course right now, and it is a great fit for rehab-oriented and health care professionals. If you have a course nearby, go for it!!
I too have completed Polestar Rehab/Studio course. Most of my classmates were physical therapists. So it is a very good choice and you are lucky to live close.
