I am looking for some modification suggestions for my client who is in a cast from her hand to just above the elbow - the arm is bent in a 90 degree angle. Obviously upper body work is limited, but can you offer any suggestions for upper body? Thank you in advance for your feedback!
Hi Rebecca, this is Amy---a regular teacher here one the site. This is an interesting opportunity for you......looking outside the box and finding some creative ways to work. An idea: because her cast is above the elbow and she's in a fixed 9 degree angle, you can possible use that to her advantage. Remind her to initiate/move/recruit from the upper back, rear shoulder etc and not from her elbow, you can do sitting Rhomboids --- have her put her arms through the straps, strap at the elbow. You can also have her do rows---sitting on long box, elbows at sides with palms face up. Strap on elbow still----engage the upper back and bring the upper arms back, leading with the elbows. External rotation of humerous: sitting on long box, elbows near sides of body, palms face up. This may give you a beginning and help you see a few ways to work with her. Swan on the stabillity ball might be nice too. Thanks for asking this question!
