Thick mat?

I see some of the instructors use a super thick black mat. Can someone please give me manufacturer, and name of this type of mat and where you purchased? I had surgery on the area near my tailbone and rolling on the hard floor with a thin mat gets pretty sore. Thanks!
Hi Mandy, Amy here...one of the regular teachers. I often use the thick black Mat which is actually a Reformer/Mat conversion Mat that I purchased from Balanced Body. You may also want to check Peak, Gratz and Stott as they may have a thicker floor mat option too. Very often, however, these Mats are a bit heavier and require some lifting off the floor or propping them up against a wall for storage. Just some thoughts.
Costco also sells a super thick (2.5 inch or more) camping-style foam mat that is about $50. It is NOT very portable however. I sometimes use a thicker mat like this in my studio for floor mat exercises, when my mat conversion is inconvenient to pull out and I place it near the Wunda chair. It is very comfortable and much thicker than the yoga mats, which are designed to stand on. For a more portable option, most sporting good stores sell a Pilates mat that's thicker. Most of my senior adults I teach use this over the yoga (thinner) style to bring to mat class since it is more comfortable. Sorry, I don't have a brand, but I think Balanced Body (pilates.com) sells several options, including the black one you refer to.
