Short Box On the Reformer - Over the headrest?

Hi, I have a question about whether there is a "standard" for how to place the short box in reformer exercises. I have a home reformer I use regularly and also take a series of classes at a studio from time to time to get some direct instruction. My earlier instructors didn't seem too concerned about box placement (some of the students put the short box in front of the headrests) but recently I had an instructor give me a serious lecture about correct positioning of the box (long and short). I'm 5'6" (if that makes a difference) and usually place the box over the headrests in short box and in front of the headrest in long box. It's the way I was taught, so it's what I do. I'm curious about whether people have an opinion either way, and if there are specific reasons for different box positions.
