Single leg kick, knee/hamstring probs

Hi,
I have some clients who find that the back of the knee/lower hamstring clicks/snaps when they perform the single leg kick. I have had them do the exercise without the T spine extension, and without lifting their thigh up and it does improve. But, I'm wondering if anyone know what it is that clicks/snaps, and if there's any other modification or exercises to do to minimise this happening.
