Spine Bruising

Strange question... I've been doing pilates for a while but I've recently started doing it more frequently (like 3-4 times a week) and I've started getting bruising along the length of my spine, in my lower back- from just below my bra strap to just below my waist. I'm pretty sure it's from rolling like a ball and a few other moves that require that much weight to be put on the back when it's in curved position. Am I doing something wrong? Do I just have weird pokey-out vertebrae?! I'm medium weight (about 60kg). I've already doubled up matts without success so any suggestions to help would be really appreciated!

Hi Katie, when you say you've doubled up mats, do you mean two Pilates mats rather than Yoga mats? We were always taught in our training with Polestar to use mats between 1cm and 1.5cm thick (about half an inch) for rolling like a ball.
Hi Maureen, yes good point, thank you. I've doubled up yoga mats, so it's about 1cm thick now. I guess I need to try adding more thickness!
