Age vs. becoming an nstructor

Lori
I'd like the opinion of instructors as to whether or not it is feasible for a 51 yr. old to become an instructor. I have a few years experience in Pilates, study it here and in books, etc., have taken classes and am interested enough to want to take it further. I just don't know how long it will practically take and if it is worth it at this point in my life. If say, for instance, it takes seven years to become really good is it going to be worth my time and money if I am 58 at that point. I also have some health issues that are being helped by my Pilates practice, but that could possibly factor in. I'd love to hear from any instructors if this is practical or not. Thanks for any advice you can provide.

Lori ~ I think it is definitely feasible for you to become a Pilates instructor! How long it takes depends on the program you choose and how busy your schedule is outside of your training program. It does take time, but it shouldn't take more than a year or two (depending on how long it takes you to complete your observation/teaching hours).

I have met many people who started their teacher training later in life and have really enjoyed it. It was either a nice change from their regular jobs or something they continued after they retired from their careers. This wasn't the case for me, but I did learn a lot more about my own body once I started my program and when I started teaching. I hope this helps!

Thanks so much Gia. I appreciate your feedback. I really do love it enough to pursue it but want to be sure.

Totally possible ---- I did. I started doing Pilates just before my 50th birthday and am now an instructor. I work a "regular" full time job and also teach part-time, about 10 hours a week.

Thanks very much for your encouragement!
Go for it Lori ! I started at 46 and am 56 now...I can't imagine not teaching Pilates at this time in my life...So grateful it came to me later..I would not have had the time or inclination when the children were young and life was so busy ! Blessings :)

I am almost to my 60th birthday!! hard for me to imagine and first time I have said it aloud.. I was close to the oldest in my class 8 years ago.. I would take nothing for my practice. I have been teaching from home for the last 3-4 years but just got myself back out in the field to start teaching group classes again, I start next week. Its actually to me most enjoyable and I am doing something I really love and appreciate . Not near the stress I used to have when nursing! Don't look back just keep moving forward. i know some amazing instructors way up in their seventies.. remember that pilates will keep you young! That should inspire you as nothing else will. Good luck to you
So maybe a baby boomer teachers club is in the future 💃🏻
