ACL (knee injury)

F B
Hello there!
I've been diagnosed with ACL because of an accident on roller blades a week ago. My doctor has told me that I can choose having surgery or not but in the mid time I must recover strength on my knee and my leg. Also he has told me that I can keep on my yoga and pilates practice as long as I dont't run or jump...or roller blade hahahaha. Anyway I'm a yoga and pilates teacher (a very new one) and it has been amazing what I've been feeling with my reformer and mat practice for the rehab of my knee. But I have some concerns, for example:
- The doctor told me there's no problem with flexions, rotations and enlongations of the leg. That means there's no problem with any position with the footwork?
- Can you recommend me any rutine from PA to follow as a rehab?
My doctor says it's ok so don't worry all I need is some good advice to complement my rehab practice.
love
HI Fabiana ~ So sorry to hear about your knee. I'm guessing you tore your ACL based on your note above. In general you want to avoid any movements that could cause your knee torque/twist with your foot planted. All the foot work should be fine but you will have to watch your alignment. Aim to have your knee over your toes when you bend it rather than inside or outside the foot. Be careful on exercises when the feet are anchored and your upper body moves (short box series, Side over on box, Ladder Barrel) again so that you don't risk twisting or putting a lot of pressure at the knee. I would avoid jumping and anything where you are in deep flexion of the knee (like rest position). Many of our classes will suit your needs. Try starting at a lower level while paying attention to how your knee feels, then gradually add intensity based on what you learn as you go.

I hope this helps!
