Functional Difference between Classical and Balanced Body Springs?

Alex P
Hi everyone,
I recently realized that I don't understand the differences in functionality of classical and Balanced Body (or other contemporary) springs.
I am aware that Balanced Body has different spring tensions instead of only one kind of spring, however, I know that isn't the only difference in how the apparatus works with the body. Can someone shed some light on this? (Details like the footbar, leather straps are already clear and the fact that Gratz and the Contrology reformer were taken from Joseph's original dimensions are already clear).
I've only been on a Gratz machine once and could definitely feel the difference but I can't afford to start going to classical classes in my area. With that said though, I would love to know if working on a more classical machine is something I should explore as I've only ever worked on Allegros, Allegro 2s and Balanced Body's Studio reformers.
Thanks!
Alex
