help! i just started working in a studio where the owner still emphasizes imprinting the spine.(posterior tilt ) at all times. i am trying to be tactful. the clients don't even recognize what a neutral pelvis is. how do i approach this? all help appreciated...thanks
Well, hopefully she would value your opinion as a good employee!! Just teach your clients as you were taught & maybe she will listen in., No need to try and correct her directly,. As teachers of Pilates we should all learn from each other! Its a school that never ends.
As a student, I have found it difficult to know WHEN to imprint, and WHEN to hold neutral- I looked at all of the instructions on the exercises, but I still suspect that I am doing things wrong. Is there a rule of thumb, or a resource that can tell me when to hold which?
Lydia, this is a great resource blog for these types of questions here: //theverticalworkshop.wordpress.com /2011/04/01/neutral-pelvis-and-neut ral-spine-what-are-they-and-why-do- we-care/ This article talks about the spine and pelvis, in general, imprinting is a beginner action and neutral is an intermediate action that first calls for a solid connection with the abdominals and then develops into refined opposition...... the essence of Pilates! No rules of thumb, just the progression of body awareness.
