Pilates for runners

F B
Hi there! I am trainning for half marathon and would like to keep with my pilates lessons. Is better to do PIlates before or after running?
Thanks a lot
Faby
Hi Faby,
I am also a runner and just from my personal experience, my body works better when I do Pilates after my run.
I would agree with Jodie, however make sure to do a good warm up before you begin your running training!

Hi, I am 46 y.o.- been a runner x27 years and have practiced pilates since 2000 so with that said, it was a shock to me when I started having knee problems....perhaps it was the pogo-stick competiton I had with my 7 year old...but can you advise me on a few reformer exercises that may help "restrenghthen" the muscles stabilizing my knee...or maybe a few reformer exercises with modifications for my knee to avoid further injury while I continue to practice. I still run several times/week and use my Balanced Body studio reformer about 2 times/week.....with my favorite PA instructors! Thanks so much for any advice and P.S. I love this website, it is perfect for busy mom/career women like myself who enjoyed private lessons in the past and now cannot seem to carve out the time....so now I enjoy the private lessons in my home....
Hi Laverne, as a fellow knee prob sufferer I relate . I started having issues with mine several years ago. Made the mistake of letting a doc do arthroscopy on it last year and now its worse and starting to atrophy. The quad muscle on that side is noticeably smaller. I am currently trying my best to strengthen all the surrounding muscles that support my knee. My quads, hip. glutes,Adductors, Abductors .I think hip work on the reformer is so vital. I do modify and place no weight bearing directly on that kneecap. I place a towel or something under it if I need to. I found a great DVD thats helped me alot with some basic exercises I try to do daily. Its called Strong Knees from Giam. I found mine on Amazon but you could get it anyplace online that sells exercise DVD's. I hope this helps some small way. Runners really do suffer with knee issues! Make sure if it continues to bother you to at least get a scan before you let somebody do a scope. Lesson learned!
