class description

At the bottom of each class you indicate BASI or Romana's pilates...ect, but I do not see where I can read about what these terms mean? I'm not sure why I would choose one over the other. Additionally, I think you could include a very breif description of what we'd see in the class- like a good workout for arms, or focus on core.. ect. to find what we're looking for more quickly.

Thanks for these suggestions, Crystal. I agree we should have an article that describes the differences in teacher training programs. There is a description written for each class already, and most classes meant to be full body workouts. We do have a few "additional" classes that focus on balance, arms, etc. We are working on an easier way to search for these now that we have over 200 classes.
I have a similar question...what is the philosophical difference between the different styles of Pilates...BASI, Romanas, Classical etc. I can't even find that when searching the internet.
Part I- I'll jump in here for a moment. While I wouldn't presume to surmise at what lies at the heart of any given program, there is a good link below that lists 10 of the largest certification programs, their approximate cost, time commitment, and if they are "Classical" or "Contemporary". The difference, in my mind at least, between those two is that "Classical" schools teach the exercises with the content, order, form, pace, breath and focus as Joe and Clara Pilates taught them. "Contemporary" schools teach most of the same exercises, but may add variations in content, order, form, pace, breath, and focus. Why those changes are made differs between schools.
Part II- At the end of the day, the Pilates world has much to offer practitioners and instructors alike. Tasting the wares of a number of different programs may help refine your palate, but know that any instruction is delivered through the added filter of that particular instructor's body, mind and spirit. The beauty of Pilates Anytime is that you can sample a great deal in the comfort of your own home!
I hope that helps, and doesn't further confuse!
