Music, please!

For me, music makes a tremendous difference in the amount of effort and energy I am able to put in my workouts. When I first joined PA, I was very surprised to discover that very few classes had music. As I have always worked out with it, it was a pretty conspicuous absence at first, albeit one I have become accustomed to.

As I have only been practicing Pilates for about a year, I'm still very new to the scene. Is there any specific reason why music is not included in classes?

The classes in which music has been featured have been fun and I have taken them over and over. I would love it if more instructors would utilize this medium to further engage participants' positive energy and effort.

Thanks!
Hi Amy-
You may find a number of different opinions about this topic here at PA, so please know I am speaking for myself.
For me, as the method advances and the movement, coordination and control become more difficult, the ability to engage and fire the appropriate muscles, in the proper sequence, with breath, becomes imperative. This often takes every bit of concentration one can muster, especially if the intention of the session is precision, and music can be a distraction.
If, on the other hand, the primary goal is flow, music can be a great addition. Different days, different intentions, different approaches.
Great question, and I hope you get numerous answers
