Katie Santos has been a movement teacher for 35 years. Growing up on a ranch not too far from Pilates Anytime as competitive horseback rider and springboard diver, Katie was set up for 30 years of back pain. In her journey to find a solution, in 1979 she heard about this method called Pilates.
Because she was not a dancer, she was not allowed into a Pilates class. In 1980, she found the book The Pilates Method of Physical and Mental Conditioning and studied the Mat work it included. Fast forward to 1982, she felt good enough to start teaching aerobics and managing a spa, then moved on to bodybuilding and working at Golds Gym.
Her first real experience with the Pilates method as a client came from a referral from Dr. Jim Garrick at Saint Francis Hospital. In place of surgery, He referred her to Nora St. John and her team who were her first Pilates teachers. The minute she got on a Reformer she knew she had to teach the method.
She got her Comprehensive training at Turning Point Studios in 2000 and is a Nationally Certified Pilates Teacher with the Pilates Method Alliance (PMA). As a studio owner with two partners, Katie has learned important lessons in business management and gained a passion for coaching and mentoring business owners. As a Mindbody, Evernote, and Work the System Certified Consultant, she enjoys sharing her knowledge and expertise while playing an important role in helping drive studio success.
She’s multitasker and is serving as Vice President of the PMA. Since 2005, she has been a Master teacher for Balanced Body® and relishes her role as international presenter for Pilates, CoreAlign, and Mindbody.
