Thanks for this Monica. I thought this was really useful. I teach mat classes myself and this is an issue for quite a few of my clients, but actually for me also! I feel I have really strong abs, but as an anxiety sufferer, I hold a lot (that's A LOT!) of tension in my neck. So if I have been doing advanced exercises myself, such as roll overs of jack knife etc. I find I almost pinch a nerve between my shoulder blades and end up with a headache..it puts me off sometimes:( but I know also I can learn from it....any further advice appreciated Sarahx
I often have neck tension when I am doing abs exercises so this video is perfect for me to recall how to start lifting and holding my head with a minimum tension...You are a great teacher Monica...thank you
Very helpful class, as I'm dealing with a lot of clients who have neck issues, especially with the "Big Five". Also a great mod for the sidekick with the towel as well!
Lovely Monica thanks! My question is, if you are delivering a class, with 8 persons, in rolling like a ball for example, we must just say the person with neck problems to stop, but could we provide them any alternative exercise so they can still feel the workout? what do you think? thak you, I love you classes!
Hi Gaspar and Dimitrina, Sorry for not seeing this sooner! A great alternative exercise for Rolling Like a Ball is repeating the Roll Back, especially if you are in a group setting. It merits a second go or repeat because the Roll Back is exactly the exercise that will build your client's strength, flexibility and control to one day be able to do Rolling like a Ball safely. Hope that helps! Monica:)
Hi Rachel, So glad to hear these modifications will help you! One of the things I love about Pilates is there is always a way to work around an injury or weakness and get a solid workout!
