My Story of Recovery After TBI (Blog)

Sharon and Danielle, I wish you both pain free acceptance filled days in the coming weeks too. Sharon, I admire your willingness to try something new and hope that you still have that craving. Seems it at least keeps life interesting no? Danielle, since writing this blog, I've learned some new terms for describing how life after concussion feels. "Shaky Brain" is a good one! Yesterday, I learned another one, "flash rage." I hope you can't relate to that one, but I sure did when I read it. For me, it has helped knowing that others understand even if they haven't talked much about it yet. Thank you both for sharing.

Kristi - Thank you for sharing the story of your injury and ongoing recovery. It is a beautifully honest portrayal of what accidents and their recovery feel like!
Having had several injuries myself, I can relate to the emotions you described and dealing with the need to be patient and kind to body, mind, and spirit.
I think it has made me a better Pilates teacher. I have respect for clients' limitations - whether they be physical, emotional, or something I don't understand.
Wishing you a return to health, Catharine

Thanks so much for sharing this. It was very brave. First of all, I want to tell you what an important person you have been in my life - even if you don't know me. I just want you to know that someone (probably many many people) out there across the globe cares about what you going through and hopes and prays that it will be over soon. Second, the information that you shared is very important to know. I learned a lot that I did not know before. I think it is essential for everyone to have this information in their knowledge base.
Catharine, I am definitely more empathetic than ever. I hope it translates to my teaching going forward. Rina I also wish I knew more about concussions before hand and glad you find my sharing valuable. Thank you both for your very kind feedback.
Thank you for sharing your story. My teenage daughter is entering year three in recovering from her TBI via a sports injury, and an accompanying neck injury. It is an invisible injury, with great socio/emotional repercussions as well. The pain of letting go of what you had/were, the re-invention - all bittersweet. Appreciate your honesty and outreach on the journey. I am a Pilates teacher and greatly appreciate all you have created with Pilates Anytime. I wish you the best on your journey.

Kristi- if you have not been evaluated for vestibular damage, such as an inner ear concussion, vestibular problems occur in 99% of blunt force trauma according to the military's own statistics. Post concussive syndrome can often include or be undiagnosed vestibular damage....imbalance, general feeling of things not quite right, getting tired or nauseous when you are in situations where your eye have a lot of stimulation, such as looking for something in a grocery store, scrolling on a computer, brain fog or becoming easily overwhelmed after even a SCENIC walk. Bouncing on that trampoline....twirling in circles? Some days you are doing better than others? An ear specialist such as a neuro-otologist or an Otologic to can at least evaluate you. I think Howard Mango is in your area. He is excellent and use my name if you want. Cathy Epley. Or email or all me if you want.

Thanks for sharing your story. My stepson had a TBI about fifteen years ago and it helps me understand him better to hear your story. I hope you will find the strength and support to manage life with TBI and that the symptoms will resolve so you can go on without pain and distress. Thanks for PA and best wishes!
