Hi Lisa, regarding the leg position for the leg up in the arabesque, it can be done either way! Doing it in parallel won't allow as much range of motion or height but could be nice to try for really squaring off the pelvis and feeling that challenge. Doing it in external rotation (yummy!) will give you much more range of motion, height and possible the stretch and perhaps glut engagement too. Play with both I say!! :) Standing leg, same..play with both.
