Hi Catherine, I am personally a big believer in training all movement directions and possibilities to restore mobility and postural balance. But that said, I think an emphasis on retraction and stimulating the posterior chain is key in building back strength and offering relief for the typically shortened suboccipital muscles. PS: The Magic Circle exercises for the neck can also be a great tool to activate the involved structures.
