I can't say it enough, Susan - thank you for the support! I'm glad to know the movements felt good, the cues hit home, and you walked away with the inspiration to share the work with your community. ❤️
These kinds of cues are what I've been leaning on more and more in my own practice and teaching. Refreshing and my body was able to release its usual tension and holding. I feel all lubricated and ready for....whatever!
I believe keeping an open and active mind during workouts is great, it's a wonderful opportunity to explore new things about ourselves both physiologically and maybe behaviorwise (is that even a word :) ). however sometimes people can be like, "I don't want to think, I just want to move, give me instructions and leave me be." anywaaay, love the class, can't wait to play around more with these ques in different exercises and on different bodies :) thank you James.
Thanks Stacy! I've been making it more and more of a priority to facilitate exploration in my teaching, while suggesting to soften into a response rather than contract into reaction.
Great comments Burçin! Yes, I think often clients are use to experiencing devoted movement time as escapism in an effort to "relax" ... here I'm suggesting that that same experience can serve as a thoughtful movement meditation resulting in a similar relaxation. I'm looking forward to hearing how some of these cues do, or do not, work for you and your students.
Thank you, James, for a great, 'brain-teasing' class. I agree that clients want to escape from using their brain but when we use different cues (or may be we could call it reverse psychology) to help them for example avoid cramping/muscle pain then they start to change their outlook. May be we should name it Neuroplasticity Pilates Class, James :)
WOW! Thank you James! The footwork and leg work was amazing and gave me such a different feel using and thinking of soft feet. Your imagary cues helped me feel deep within the body. Such a strong workout and loved the pace of it and flow. This definitely added to my queue!
Hi, the cueing is really refreshing and am learning so much just watching it....could you please explain a bit more about what you meant by clients not being able to move when using the fascia connections as opposed to the muscle fibres ( in the chest lift exercise). My understanding was we want fascia to be as involved for a more integrated movement? Thanks in advance !
