Hi Danna, I find that most people need to adjust the ribs into place by shifting them down on to the mat creating length on the back of the body. With the cue "knit the ribs together", the client often over recruits the external obliques which can inhibit the diaphragm and create tension in the area. These days, my clients are more successful with rib position when I focus on length in the back of the body. I prefer to say "soften the ribs down"...or when I am dealing with a very aware person, I will talk about the lines (muscles) from ribs to pelvis.
Makes complete sense...Thank you! I am always curious about new perspectives and new ways to help my clients visualize what it is that I am trying to convey.
Thanks so much for talking me through the exercises, so much more challenge to slow it down. Can you tell me what springs you used on reverse kneeling abs?
Susan~ I would suggest watching the video in Auto-Detect or Low quality or try restarting your computer and see if that works better. If you continue to have problems, please email us at contact@pilatesanytime.com.
