Hi Brent...Great video and very timely too. I have a client who is a serious marathon runner and while doing a marathon in Indonesia she injured herself and then felt much much worse on the long flight home. I am doing a lot of the work that you did with Kristi with her and she is doing so much better. You've not only helped me but you've allowed me to help her. Now isn't that what it's all about?
What a beautiful session. Kristi, thanks for opening up to all of us. It was beautiful to watch you be 'moved'. Brent, I have a "Pilates crush". You are so amazing as an instructor, so gentle, kind, and knowledgeable. I wish I still lived in Miami to be able to see you at your studio. Thanks for this!
Loved this class, love watching Brent teach and I love Pilates Anytime. When I feel like my creative mind is hitting a wall with my clients , the inspiration from videos like this launch my creativity once again. Pilates education is just never ending..thank you again
This was an incredible video. The classes on PA are evolving to an AMAZING placed I loved it and thanks you both so much. Kristi you are a beautiful mover its always a pleasure to watch your fluidity and gracefulness as well as you special way of bringing such authenticity to your classes. Brent you are a GIFT. My spine and hips feels soo much better hanks to your classes here. I am so looking forward to when you are in PHX in April.
Just watched this class and was so motivated to sharpen my focus on given exercises and incorporate some of the imagery and explanations Brent gave. Kristi was marvelous and so open! I have one question about something Brent said that I did not understand. It was at the 30 min mark. Kristi was on hands and knees, and Brent had his hand on Kristi's low ribs as she flexed and extended at the hips to move the carriage. He then touched her back up at about the bra line and (I thought) said "hip flexors attach up this high in your back and in the front". I thought hip flexors started in the lumbar spine and the ilium and went downward. Can you please clarify?
Hi Cynthia, great questions. The Psoas major has slips that can attach as high as T10-12 and actually penetrate the diaphragm posteriorly. That is why axial elongation is so important for both lumbar and hip health. If the spine is not drawn up in its axial length, hip flexion can become actively insufficient and cause compression in the hip and in the lumbar spine. I hope that helps. Always great to refer to anatomy, especailly of the diaphragm and you will see where the psoas major crosses through. Glad you enjoyed the class.
