this truly was one of the best explained videos...it provided for variations for those who needed it and everything was clearly explained and shown (not b/c of the girl doing the moves, but b/c the instructor kept pointing out to the areas that he was talking about)
Hello Rael and Kristie-I love these exercises for myself and can really see how they would benefit my clients. I have one question concerning supine/flexion work on the roller for older ladies who may be unaware that they have or are developing osteoporosis. I would welcome your views on potential safety issues for a class where some members are 65+. I look forward to your reply.
Deana, I shy away from blanket, generalized statements of what is good and what is not good for certain populations. But yes, in general spinal flexion is not recommended for people who have osteoporosis, or are developing osteoporosis. Saying that, I personally believe that maintaining mobility (with caution and discretion) in all ranges of motion is important for a functional lifestyle and general wellbeing. I recommend attending some of the wonderful workshops on this fascinating topic. We offer a course through BASI Pilates and there are many others available. The roller adds an element of challenge and facilitates the recruitment of the deep stabilized, very positive for the population you work with.
Hello Real Thank you for your prompt reply and thoughtful comments. I am a newly qualified teacher so I will be consulting my mentors and will definitely will be attending courses to deepen my knowledge in this important and fascinating area. Kind regards Deana
