About Amy Havens
Primary Teacher Training: Pilates Conservatory®
PMA® Certified Pilates Teacher
Amy was first introduced to Pilates in 1990 while attending Colorado State University on scholarship for dance. The department brought a Pilates Matwork program in as a means of dance conditioning and injury prevention. Immediately curious and drawn to the work, Amy began taking classes at The Pilates Center of Ft. Collins with
Gary Calderone and
Jeff Woodman, both graduates of
The Pilates Center of Boulder. At that time, she was asked to enter their teacher training program, but instead, went on to complete her degree. She received her B.A. in 1991 and spent the next five years immersed in the passions of the dance world teaching, performing and choreographing throughout Colorado.
Amy moved to San Francisco in 1996 to pursue a performing career, but like many dancers, experienced an injury. This led to an immense opportunity. She contacted St. Francis Memorial Hospital for rehabilitation and was guided to A Body of Work San Francisco, a local Pilates studio. It was this journey that steered her to
The Physical Mind Institute® teacher training program. Under the direction of
Madelyn Black and
Jean Sullivan, Amy received her comprehensive certificate of completion in 1999. Amy’s work with Madelyn and Jean helped her re-discover the power of Pilates and its invaluable benefits of healing and rehabilitation. She moved to Santa Barbara in 2001 and began
CenterPoint Pilates.
Amy’s commitment to continuing education has inspired her to take numerous courses from some of the leading Master teachers in the industry both of the classical and contemporary lineages. She was introduced to the
Ron Fletcher Program of Study® in 2004 and in 2005 received her license to teach the Spine Corrector Work® from then program directors
Pat Guyton and
Kyria Sabin. Amy has been richly influenced by Master teacher Pat Guyton and is a proud graduate and affiliate of her teacher training program,
Pilates Conservatory®.
Amy’s deep appreciation and understanding of anatomy, versatility and eclectic lineages enables her to teach with detail, mastery and inspiration. She brings joy and spirit into her classes and encourages her students to embrace Pilates as a lifestyle, inspires them to make the connection that Pilates enhances daily living and its principles help keep us in the present moment.
