Wow! That's a tough one to analyze via written description Naz de Bono... I'm not even sure I understand how your leg can be behind your knee, but I would suggest either you allow yourself to do fewer reps of that motion in order to go slower, or perhaps alter the position to a cross legged one. Have you tried the weights for leverage? I have a very hard time getting up from that position. The first time I took Ed's class in South Africa, I had a friend opposite me who was good at it. She would reach for my hands to grab me at the point of getting up. It allowed me to put my feet where I wanted them, but also allowed me to get up. I still don't think I could do it without her or the weights. It's hard to offer more suggestions without seeing you. Most of all I hope you remember Pilates should include joy. Ed has specifically altered traditional Pilates with the intent to challenge and play. If you experience pain, you may find your joy of movement without this portion of class.

Hi. Thanks for taking my class! I think that it has something to do with your gluteus medius. Most deviation of the knee in a squat position will have something to do with the abductors. Possibly doing some 'clam' style exercises will help. Make sure that you are not doing the work from the TFL. Give that a try and then let me know.
You also may want to try stacking up some mats to start with. It will make it easier to get up. As you progress, take a mat away. Enjoy!

Thanks so much to both of you.
Ed, I agree, I feel it is to do with glut med - I already do heaps of clam type exercises on reformer, using scissel discs on jump board before even doing any kind of work out that i feel will challenge them. I tried doing it with a ball between my knees but I still end up with feet wider than knees and my left foot a good 3" behind my right. I have used the weight kristi but still doesn't help my poor alignment. I shall try the mats Ed, thanks.
The friend helping sounds good Kristi, although i train alone in my studio ..i even tried seeing if the springs on my caddy could help! It's not really a problem for me to get up.. Just being able to do it with good form. I appreciate it is very difficult without seeing this but I have found your comments very helpful... And my joy will be mastering it!!

I want to say again how FANTASTIC I think you guys and this website are .. I LOVE IT!

So, thank you :)

Wow, better than running through the snow today!
Love cardio intervals between mat work. Would love to see similar class but change up the cardio. All squat thrusts and deck rolls were hard on my body; next time I'll do other cardio during those intervals. Good sweat!
holy moly. Perfect! And addressing the pubic bone up toward the nose is always a good reminder for me since I tend to be lordotic. So, for me, with that cue I had a number of mini-epiphanies. Really found the depth of my c curves.
More Ed!! More cardio Pilates!! Thanks so much!!
