Brett holds a B.F.A. in Dance from the Conservatory of Dance at State University of New York at Purchase and an M.A. in Dance Education from the Steinhardt School of Education, Culture, and Human Development at New York University . He has danced for the Saeko Ichinohe Dance Company, Mary Seidman and Dancers, Stephan Koplowitz, Tarin Chaplin, Hemiko Minota, Renata Celichowska, Susan Koff, and The Faun Dance Troupe, and he is the Artistic Director and Choreographer for the dance company Brett Howard and Company, which he founded in 2001.
Brett was certified by the New York Pilates Studio® Teacher Certification Program, under the tutelage of Romana Kryzanowska in 1998, and has been a Teacher of Teachers for the program since 2003. He has trained extensively with Pilates Elders Mary Bowen, Jay Grimes, and Lolita San Miguel, as well as Master Teachers Bob Liekens, Sari Mejia Santo, and Steve Giordano. He also studied Anatomy and Biomechanics with Irene Dowd, Lynn Martin, and Sean P. Gallagher. He is a PMA Certified Pilates Teacher, a committee member of the PMA Pilates Youth Program, and a Co-Author of the PMA Pilates Youth Program Manual. He is featured in the Pilates book, Pilates Method of Body Conditioning: Introduction to the Core Exercises by Sean P. Gallagher and Romana Kryzanowska.
In 2004, Brett opened The Pilates Haus, a studio dedicated to Authentic Pilates™, located in historic downtown Jersey City, New Jersey. The mission of the Pilates Haus is to preserve and perpetuate Joseph Pilates original system of body conditioning. In addition, Brett has taught workshops all around the United States as well as Argentina, Austria, Brazil, Germany, and Spain. He is recognized in the Pilates industry as an expert in the Joseph Pilates Archival Exercise which he teaches at workshops and conferences around the world, including Balanced Body: Pilates on Tour. He also specializes in continuing education courses focused around Authentic Pilates™, Anatomy and Biomechanics, and Special Needs Populations, and he has created a Pilates curriculum for children that can be implemented in schools as well as the private sector.
