"Before the Hundred" is the title, first generation master teacher,
Kathy Grant, gave to the body of preparatory Mat exercises she developed over the five decades that she taught Pilates. Kathy believed that is was imperative to learn the skills required to perform Mr. Pilates' Mat exercises before jumping right into them. The overall commitment is on knowing where your center is, and how to control and move freely with just the right amount of tension, energy, range, and strength.
In this workshop, students will learn selected exercises and techniques from "Before the Hundred," taught through the lens of one of her long time students Cara Reeser. Using these techniques and skills will allow Pilates teachers to be more successful in both teaching and practicing the traditional Pilates vocabulary with ease, balance, and control.
Objectives
- Learn the different breathing techniques that Kathy used and how each one would facilitate movement during certain exercises
- Learn about "Kathy's Song" and how it can be used to align the body
- Learn how to incorporate these subtle movements and ideas into the traditional Pilates work
